What is a triathlon? A triathlon typically consists of 3 sports in a single race: a swim, a bike, and a run…usually in that order. The 3 sports are done back-to-back with "transitions" in-between (to change clothes/shoes, pick-up or drop-off bike).
Do children need to train for this race? Most active children should be able to handle these distances without too much difficulty. It might be helpful for children to practice "transitions" (drying off and putting on clothes, shoes, and helmet) and trying a run after a bike ride.
Can my child use a "floatie" in the pool or training wheels on the bike? Unfortunately, we cannot allow floaties or training wheels. It is acceptable, however for children to hold onto the lane lines or edge of the pool during the swim. Training wheels are generally not built to handle bike rides of this distance and can break or lose parts, which creates a safety hazard for the rider and for other children on the course. What should children wear for the race? It's really a matter of preference. Children must wear a swimsuit in the pool, and some children may feel comfortable doing the entire race in their swimsuits. Many children put on t-shirts and shorts prior to the bike portion of the race. Keep in mind that all children will need to display their race number (provided) on the front of their body - either pinned to their t-shirt or worn on a race belt. Sneakers must be put on immediately following the swim and worn for the remainder of the race…shoelaces must be tied. Helmets are required for the bike portion of the race...and don't forget sunscreen!
Can I accompany my child on the race? There are many areas available for you to watch your child in each portion of the race, but we ask that you stay off the course. We will have plenty of volunteers on the course to direct and ensure the safety of the children. If you would like to volunteer, please send an e-mail to

You may assist your child in transition areas (e.g., helping them to tie their shoes), but only one adult per child will be allowed into transition.
Does my child need to bring any food or drink? This is also a matter of preference. We will have drinks (water, electrolyte replacement) available to the children on the run course. They will pass the drinks twice during the run. There will also be plenty of food and drink available to the children after the race.
How can I support my child during the race? We love enthusiastic spectators! Cheer loudly for your child…and for other athletes as well. Feel free to make signs to hold up when your child passes you on the course. We want to see lots of encouragement out there and we want a loud, fun finish line!
What's your refund policy? Unfortunately, we cannot refund entry fees for any reason. Entry fees cannot be transferred to other athletes or applied toward future events. Should you decide not to race for whatever reason, the NO REFUND POLICY above applies. In addition, please understand that no race items will be mailed prior to or after the event including race bags, shirts or other amenity. In addition, these items will not be held for you to pick up.
